Warrington Rotary Club is raising funds and organising an international emergency meal packing project for the charity ‘Stop Hunger Now’.
The ‘Stop Hunger Now’ meal packaging project aims to pack a massive 100,000 meals over 2 days on August 12th and 13th for eventual distribution worldwide in the event of an international emergency situation.
Warrington Rotary Club is designating it as part of the 2016/17 Rotary International year of ‘Rotary Serving Humanity’ programme. Forty to fifty volunteers will be needed to pack over the two days and it will cost £25,000.
A major project and the first of its kind in the UK, the club is asking for volunteers, organisations and businesses to raise funding and be prepared to pack meals.
The idea came from two of the club’s members who had volunteered at one at the Rotary International Conference in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil last year. Previous packing projects have taken place in the US and Rotary representatives from Texas will be at the two day event.
It will be held at Chaigeley School, Thelwall, Warrington.
