Platform Theatre Company – Situation Comedy – 5th, 6th & 9th April 2017

‘Situation Comedy’ – the latest offering from Platform Theatre Company – is set to raise the humour levels at The Old Courts in April.

Healthy Arts, a local professional arts consortium that connects creativity and wellbeing, has been running workshops and rehearsals to develop this humorous showcase, as part of Wigan Arts Festival. Platform Theatre is a community drama group, integrating teenagers and adults, and their rib-tickling production is being created with local theatre director, Martin Green, at the helm.

The production will be one of the very first offerings in the recently refurbished theatre space at The Old Courts on Crawford Street. It includes sketches by local playwright, Julie McKiernan, alongside some scenes that have been created by members of the company, with plenty of jokes and gags thrown in for good measure.

Martin is welcoming the opportunity to make people laugh when there are so many stressful things going on in the wider world. He says, “Rehearsals began last September when the group requested the opportunity to tackle performing comedy. We began to explore the wide range of situations that can make us laugh: the misfortune of others; strange or unusual behaviour; conflict between different personalities … and you can observe it all here in an eclectic mix of funny and bizarre scenarios!”

The production includes some interesting characters, including: a con-artist spirit medium; a girl auditioning as Elvis; and a useless sales assistant! There is plenty of material to raise a titter – and the performance will be sprinkled with some familiar TV theme tunes.

Supported by the ‘Deal for Communities’ fund, Healthy Arts is pleased to be entering a third year of working with the local community.

‘Situation Comedy’ runs on Wednesday 5th & Thursday 6th April at 7.30pm both evenings with a matinee on Sunday 9th April at 3.00pm. With some mild language, the play is advertised as suitable for those age 13 plus. Tickets are on sale now priced £10 each and can be booked via The Old Courts on 01942 410499 or visit their website – www.theoldcourts.com
