New café opens at Birchwood Forest Park

The autumn bank holiday saw the opening of a new café at the ranger hut in Birchwood Forest Park. Over the bank holiday weekend several hundred customers sampled the delights of the homemade cakes along with teas, coffees and soft drinks.

Since opening, the café has quickly become a popular venue for meeting up with friends and making new ones in an attractive, parkland environment. Run by a group of enthusiastic volunteers known as the Friends of Birchwood Forest Park, all the profits from the café will be used to make Birchwood Forest park better than ever by purchasing gardening tools, plants, bulbs, and new facilities. One of the first purchases was a large pop-up marquee to protect café-goers from the rain.

Since the grand opening, the café has been open every weekend on both Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. During the winter months, the café’s hours of opening will depend on the number of people using the café, and so it is likely that the hours will be shortened as the days draw in. To keep up-to-date with opening times, you can visit the group’s Facebook page (The Friends of Birchwood Forest Park).

Would you like to help?

The group is now looking for more volunteers to help keep the café open as often as possible, especially once the spring comes along. If you’re interested, just let the group know by posting on the Facebook pages, or drop by for a chat. Not only will you be joining a group who have real fun and a good laugh together, you’ll also be helping to raise all-important funds at the same time. Or if you just fancy a slice of cake and a cuppa, pop along and find out why Maureen and Keith wrote in the café’s visitor book: – “Absolutely great! Just what we have needed to get people chatting. Nice Friendly helpers. Hope it stays” or why Suzie said “Brilliant idea, coffee is good and the cakes are scrummy. We need it open more often. Lovely staff”.
