A free celebratory event called ‘Made in Leigh’ will showcase a year of creative work by the community at the Turnpike Centre.
Thanks to funding from Wigan Council’s ‘Deal’ and the Big Lottery’s ‘Awards for All’, Healthy Arts, the local arts consortium using creativity to enhance wellbeing, has been working with local residents on two innovative projects throughout the year.
‘MemorabLEIGH’ is a local arts and heritage project for the over 50’s. Participants have been collecting stories and creating archive photograph displays as well as developing two brand new guided walks for Leigh town centre.
The resident ‘Mind ART’ group have been honing their visual art skills by working with professional artists on a 30-week programme. Having learned new techniques and mastered art forms such as sculpture, book art and mosaic making, they are set to exhibit their work at the ‘Made in Leigh’ event.
