LYMM HEADING FOR ANOTHER “HISTORIC” DAY.
Families and transport enthusiasts alike are in for a rare treat at this year’s Lymm Historic Transport Day on Sunday June 25th. As well as all the usual favourites – including classic cars, traction engines, historic working boats and model railways the organisers have come some great new attractions.
Visitors to last year’s show loved the replica Spitfire on the main event field but this year the team have gone one better, adding a Spitfire flypast courtesy of the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. With the A.T.C. bringing along an aircraft cockpit plus fantastic large scale model planes there is a great aviation component to this year’s show.
Kids are already getting excited at the prospect of a visit from the Lymm dinosaur. This semi-animatronic beast – 7ft tall and 16ft long will be walking the field and amazing visitors with its lifelike sounds and movements. There will even be baby triceratops for those who find the dinosaur just a little too overwhelming !
Lymm lost its station back in in 1963 but just for one day it is gaining a narrow gauge railway. The 10 inch gauge track is being laid especially for the day and the locomotive is being built even as we write and will be making its first appearance at the show.
The Lego exhibition was another of last year’s hits and they will be returning with new models including a fantastic representation of the Red Arrows doing a flypast over Southport Beach ..as well as an all day build of Lymm Cross in Lego.
The volunteer team who put on the event pull out all the stops to make it a memorable day even laying on free parking with a trip into the village centre on a vintage bus as a bonus.
The day kicks off with the drive-in parade at 10.30 and wraps up with a sail past of Historic Boats at 16.30. a.d all this for a family ticket price of just £12 or £5 for an adult.
