So much to entertain you at Lymm Festival Summer 2017

It’s just a few weeks now until Lymm Festival kicks off on Thursday 22nd June with the FoodFest and Street Fun in the village centre and then goes right through to Sunday 2nd July with entertainment all the way.

Lymm-Festival-Summer-2017Festival Blues Night on Saturday 1st July at Lymm Golf Club features Mat Walklate and Paolo Fushci playing a dynamic set of classic blues from the 50s and 60s plus lots more in what promises to be a great evening of foot-tapping fun.

Plus there will be music from many local ensembles – Lydian Singers, Altèri Chamber Choir, Bridgewater Singers and Lymm & District Chorus – with the return of the popular Jake Thackray tribute evening, this year showcasing Lost Songs, rounding off the Festival on Sunday 2nd July at The Spread Eagle.

For comedy and drama, the Festival is excited to headline with author and broadcaster Gyles Brandreth with his show “Word Play” at Statham Lodge on Monday 26th June – bound to be a popular show. Festival Comedy Club on Thursday 29th is compered by Alex Boardman with appearances from Jo Caulfield and Dave Johns plus a further act yet to be announced. And how about a “whodunnit” – Murder On The Terrace will be at Lymm Oughtrington Park Cricket Club on Friday 23rd June for an open air performance to get you sleuthing.

If you lean more towards Art and Literature, then there is plenty to go at as well. Among authors at the Festival are Terry Waite at Lymm Hotel on Wednesday 28th with his new book “Out of the Silence”, Tara Guha discussing her debut novel “Untouchable Things” at The Church Green on Saturday 24th, children’s poet Matt Goodfellow also on Saturday 24th at the Baptist Church and children’s author Philip Caveney on Saturday 1st July. Plus “Our Favourite Poems” returns on Friday 23rd June at the Methodist Church.

For the art lover, there will be exhibitions from Lymm Artists, Maple Lodge Art Group, local artist Paul Scates and from Lymm Floral Art Group. And why not try it yourself on the Sketchcrawl in the village on Saturday 24th guided by members of Lymm Artists or do your bit to add to the community art project “Branching Out”, which will be on display at Lymm Youth & Community Centre.

Plenty to do for children with the Family Garden Party on Saturday 1st July, “Wonderslide World” activity workshop on Saturday 24th June plus Dip The Dam with the Rangers on Wednesday 28th June.

Events “Out & About” include the return of the Scarecrow Trail so get cracking making your Robot scarecrow to join in. Lymm Open Gardens will be displaying the best of Lymm’s gardens on Sunday 2nd July plus there will be a chance to join in with making art at The Artful Garden on 1st and 2nd July. Plus charity walks for Guide Dogs and for Motor Neurone Research as well as local history walks in the village.

And not to be forgotten is Historic Transport Day on Sunday 25th June, bigger and better than ever – and with a Spitfire flypast no less! Hundreds of classic cars and motorcycles will be on display plus historic boats on the canal and traction engines in the village, all after the day kicks off with the drive-in parade at 10:30.

The Festival is also proud to promote the inaugural exhibition at the newly opened Lymm Heritage and Information Centre, “The Quiet Revolution” all about bicycles and how they have played a big part in Lymm’s history.
