Join us at Grappenhall Community Library

First of all, to anyone who has recently joined the Library may we extend a very warm welcome. We hope that you find the Library offers you activities and events that you will enjoy, as well as friendship, and plenty of books to borrow.

Last December we held a very successful Christmas Fair. Many people came to support us and buy presents, and Father Christmas greeted children in his grotto and gave them gifts. The Fair rounded off a year of events that had proved very popular and raised much needed funds towards the upkeep of the Library.

The Events Team has been working hard on the schedule for the coming year and there is now a fund raising activity arranged for most months. These include a Wine Tasting evening at the end of April, Family Bingo, a Gin Tasting evening hosted by local distillers, a Music Quiz, a return visit by Reefs Reptiles, and later in the year our very popular Whisky Tasting. Library members also take part in the festivities at Grappenhall Walking Day and of course we will be holding our Christmas Fair in December.

If you are a regular visitor to the Library you will know that there are always drinks and cakes to purchase, a craft table for the children, and toys and puzzles for them to enjoy as well as many books to read and borrow. Last year a few of the Library volunteers organised a ‘Beatrix Potter’ themed display and stories to co-incide with the 150th anniversary of her birth, and this year there has recently been a ‘Teddy Bear’ display, crafts and stories linked to the film ‘ We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. Later in the year the theme is to be ‘Reptiles’, again with stories and crafts to accompany the display. On the last Saturday of most months there is a very popular Lego Club.

The Wednesday Community Coffee Mornings are going from strength to strength, offering Tai Chi and the opportunity to chat to friends over a tea or coffee as well as crafts of various sorts. The Tai Chi sessions are held from 9.30 – 10.30, and the Make and Take crafts, drinks and chat are from 11.00 – 12.30. The greetings cards produced at the craft table are very popular and are sold in aid of the Library. Please do drop in if you have the time, you will find a very warm welcome.

Once again, if you have not yet been to the Library please visit and make yourself known to the volunteers. The Library is at the junction of Albert Road and Victoria Avenue and has off-road parking. Opening hours are 2.00 – 6.00pm on Mondays and Tuesdays and 10.00am – 1.00pm on Thursdays and Saturdays. We have a web site ( and a Facebook page (Friends of Grappenhall Library), where you will find more details about forthcoming events nearer the relevant dates, and the other facilities the Library has to offer, such as a venue for parties.

We look forward to seeing you.
