Faith in Warrington’s future

The shared humanity of people of all faiths will be celebrated at a special event in Warrington.

Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Faisal Rashid – who is Warrington’s first ever Muslim Mayor – is hosting the ‘Breaking the Barriers’ event on 1 February 2017.

The first event of its kind in Warrington, Breaking the Barriers will explore the common theme of humanity which runs through every religion and will call on people of all faiths to unite, reach out to others in love and stand together against hate in all its forms.

Open to everyone, the free, large-scale event takes place at Parr Hall, giving people the opportunity to listen to a range of inspirational speakers, representing some of the world’s major faiths, as well as those without a faith.

Addressing the theme of a shared humanity, whatever faith we belong to, the event will also include a drama based on religious stories from different faiths and performances from a choir and a brass band.

Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Rashid, said: “Breaking the Barriers will be a very special event which will send out a powerful message, across Warrington and beyond. The event is open to all ages and also to families – as it will provide great learning for children.

“It’s never been more important that we stand together and celebrate our differences, as well as the many things we all share in common. This event will serve as symbol of peace, friendship and unity between people of all faiths and of no faith.

“The event will also raise awareness about hate crime, such an important issue to address in the current climate. It will give us the chance to unite against hate and intolerance in all its forms – whether it is based upon race, religion, nationality, sexual orientation or disability.

“The core theme for this event is humanity, which is crucial – because I believe that if we all start by recognising and celebrating each other’s humanity, the rest will follow. Please join us at the event and help us send out these important messages of unity.”

Breaking the Barriers takes place at Parr Hall, Palmyra Square on Wednesday, 1 February 2017, at 7pm. To book your free place(s), visit www.warrington.gov.uk/mayor
