Culcheth Open Gardens Sat 8th & Sun 9th July

This July there is once again a chance to visit gardens in Culcheth.

What more delightful way to spend a weekend than to wander around a variety of Gardens! This year there are eight gardens to visit (may be more by July).

Culcheth-open-gardens-2Tickets are £5 if bought in advance or £6 on the day (children free). These tickets cover both days. They will be available from Culcheth Methodist Church (CMC) on Sunday mornings, from Poytons the florist on Lodge Drive, St Rocco’s hospice or any of the participating gardeners. On the day you will also be able to buy tickets at any of the gardens. The money raised will go to St. Rocco’s hospice and Culcheth Methodist Church.

This event has raised many thousands of pounds over the years. The Church will benefit using the money for the building and supporting community groups who use the building while St. Rocco’s will continue its’ wonderful work supporting those with life limiting illnesses.

At first glance, visiting eight or more gardens may seem a marathon, but remember that your ticket covers two days. It is also possible to pause and relax at several venues. The Church’s Open Doors coffee shop will be open on Saturday from 10-12 and the church choir will be there on Saturday to entertain you (approx. 10.30). Also, while there, you can enjoy an exhibition of paintings by Morag Burton. Some will be for sale with the proceeds going to St. Rocco’s and the church.

At another venue (25 Cawley Ave), you can rest while enjoying tea and home made cakes. If the gardens have inspired you there will be a plant stall at 29 Culcheth Hall Drive where you can pick up some of your favourite plants. Most of the plants will have been donated by enthusiastic gardeners but some will be supplied by St. Rocco’s fund raisers.

The gardens will vary a great deal in size and content. Some will have manicured lawns and flower beds and some will concentrate on shrubs while others will show a variety of vegetables. There will be something for everyone and even one with a home for hedgehogs and another with a fairy garden! All the gardens are kept with enthusiasm in abundance.
