East Warrington is set to spring to life with music, colour and excitement on Sunday 4 June for the Birchwood Carnival 2017.
The annual event, at Birchwood Forest Park, always proves to be popular with people from Warrington and beyond – and this year is set to be no exception, with some first-class entertainment lined up.
Mayor of Warrington, Councillor Les Morgan, will begin the festivities at 12.30pm, by officially opening the newly refurbished multi-use games area. This will be followed by a colourful procession around the park, led by Karamba Samba Band. Next is the fancy dress competition judging and prize-giving, followed by the official event opening at 1.00pm.
The afternoon’s arena acts include Shadowquest Dog Display Team, Vale Royal Falconry, and local acts such as Inspire School of Dance and Northern Starr Dance and Zumba.
There will also be a fun dog show running throughout the afternoon, a large funfair and over 30 charity and craft stalls to visit.
And the fun doesn’t stop there. Other attractions this year include a range of food outlets, ferret walking, magic shows, donkey rides and local history displays.
There will also be the chance to join a range of workshops, including drumming, craft, nature and circus skills, and activities led by The Wolves Foundation. Wolfie will also be making an appearance.
Warrington Borough Council’s assistant director for transport and environment, David Boyer, said: “The Birchwood Carnival is a real highlight in Warrington’s calendar, bringing large crowds to the Forest Park to enjoy a day of fun and entertainment for the whole family.
“The organisers have been working as hard as ever to make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy. There will be a real carnival atmosphere and so much to see and do – so make sure you join us for what will a wonderful occasion in one of our fantastic green spaces.”
Now in its 33rd year, Birchwood Carnival is organised and run by Warrington Borough Council’s Ranger Service and Birchwood Carnival Committee. This year’s event takes place on the main playing fields at Birchwood Forest Park on Sunday 4 June.
